A little help, before you head out.

Do I need an account?

No player account is required. Downloaded trails, progress, scores and badges belong to the current browser or app installation. They are not backed up to an Unloc City cloud account.

Keep using the same device and browser to resume. Private browsing, clearing site storage or switching to a separately installed browser context can remove or separate your saved data.

Can I play without mobile signal?

Download the trail while connected and wait for Ready offline. The saved essential game content then works without a successful network request. New downloads, updates, current availability and external maps may need a connection.

If downloading fails, check storage space and connectivity and retry. An interrupted update keeps the previous downloaded copy. Do not set off relying on a download that has not finished.

What if the location check fails?

Check that your browser has location permission and that you are safely in the stop’s approach area. A fresh check may work better in open space. The app distinguishes permission problems, timeouts, old readings and uncertain accuracy.

Use the configured short-code or QR fallback where one is available. Fallback codes allow you to keep playing even with spotty GPS signal. Never step into traffic, cross a barrier or enter a closed area to satisfy a check.

How do I remove or update a downloaded trail?

Open My Trails and choose Remove download. The downloaded copy is removed while progress and badges remain on this device. You can download again to revisit or resume.

My Trails shows the downloaded revision and an update notice when the latest known published revision is newer. Choose Download update while connected. An active game keeps its original clues and revision. After a completed run, you can start the updated revision and keep the earlier badge.

What leaves my phone?

Location readings, answers and stop codes are checked locally and are not sent to gameplay APIs or analytics. External directions open a separate map service. Hosting providers still process ordinary request metadata when your browser requests pages and downloads.

Optional analytics are off by default and can be controlled in Settings. Business enquiry details are different: the information entered in an enquiry is sent to our private business inbox so it can be answered.

Does a trail include venue admission?

No. Admission is handled separately by the venue, with its own opening times and restrictions. Check the trail’s admission notes and the venue’s official information before visiting.

How do I stay safe while undertaking a trail?

Always prioritise your personal safety and your group’s safety over the game. Watch the street ahead of you rather than staring at your screen while walking, and pause in a safe spot out of the flow of pedestrian and vehicle traffic when examining a puzzle.

Stick to public rights of way and obey all local signage, temporary diversions and pedestrian crossings. Keep children supervised near roads, waterways and tram lines. Ensure your phone has plenty of battery charge, dress suitably for changing British weather, and carry water on longer walks.
